Glyceryl stearate is the ingredient nobody brags about. No one has ever bought a balm because of it. But if you've ever wondered why one balm spreads like a dream while another drags and clumps, this is usually the answer.
The name sounds like a chemistry exam, so let's take it apart. Glycerin: the skin-loving humectant that shows up in half of skincare. Stearic acid: a fatty acid found in plant oils and, for that matter, in you. Bond them together and you get glyceryl stearate, a plant-derived fat that your own body also produces when it digests food. It sounds synthetic. It's about as synthetic as soap.
