Kaolin Clay
Part of our Ingredient Glossary — educational information about raw materials we may use in our products. We don't sell raw ingredients.

Kaolin is the foundational cosmetic clay, a true workhorse in our workshop. It is a very fine, soft powder that has been used for centuries in skincare for its gentle yet effective properties. Unlike more absorbent clays like bentonite, kaolin provides a very mild cleanse, making it ideal for frequent use and for sensitive skin.
Its primary function is to gently draw out impurities and absorb excess oil from the skin's surface without stripping its protective barrier. It also provides a very subtle exfoliation, helping to slough away dead cells and refine the skin’s texture, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.
In our soaps, kaolin clay adds a wonderful silky, creamy quality to the lather and acts as a natural anchor for scents. In face masks, it provides the purifying base, helping to deliver other active ingredients to the skin while gently cleansing and softening the complexion.
Our high-quality kaolin is sourced from France, a region renowned for producing exceptional cosmetic clays. It’s a versatile, timeless, and indispensable ingredient for creating products that are both effective and incredibly gentle on the skin.
