Amyris is one of the most beautiful and useful woody oils in our apothecary. While it's often called West Indian Sandalwood, it's not a true sandalwood, but it shares many of its best qualities in a much more sustainable and affordable way. Its aroma is soft, sweet, and woody, with a distinct vanilla-like undertone that makes it incredibly warm and comforting.
One of its most valuable properties is its ability to act as a fixative. In our complex essential oil blends, the lighter citrus and floral notes can evaporate quickly. Amyris, with its thick, viscous nature, helps to "fix" these lighter notes, slowing their evaporation and making the entire blend last much longer.
Aromatically, Amyris is a profoundly calming and grounding oil. It's less complex than true Sandalwood, but it has a simple, beautiful ability to quiet the mind and ease nervous tension. It's a perfect oil for a meditative blend or a relaxing evening bath, helping to release the stress of the day.
We source our organic Amyris from Haiti, where the wood is harvested from sustainable, cultivated trees. It's a wonderful, ethical ingredient that provides a beautiful woody base note and a sense of deep, gentle peace.
