Organic Mango Butter

This is part of our Ingredient Glossary, where we explain what goes into our products and why. We do not sell raw ingredients.

Here's a secret about mango butter: it has nothing to do with the part of the mango you eat. It's pressed from the kernel hiding inside the pit, the part everyone throws away. Somewhere along the line, somebody cracked one open and discovered a dense, creamy butter sitting inside. We're grateful they did.

On paper, mango butter looks a lot like cocoa or shea butter. Similar fatty acids, similar richness. The difference is in the finish. Cocoa butter can feel like armor. Shea can feel like a coat. Mango butter melts the moment it touches warm skin and then actually leaves, absorbing instead of sitting on the surface. Rich going on, clean afterward.

That disappearing act is exactly why we chose it for Nose to Toe-Beansβ„’, our dog balm. A paw balm has one unusual job requirement: it needs to sink in before the dog notices it's there. Mango butter gives the balm its cushiony, cream-like body and softens rough pads and dry noses, then absorbs fast enough that your floors stay clean and your dog stays uninterested. It does the same work in the PAWpothecary Doggie Care Duo, where the balm follows a bath.

We use the organic, unrefined version. It costs more and it's worth it; refining strips out some of the phytosterols and vitamin E that make the butter more than just a texture ingredient. The kernel earned its second life. We're not going to bleach the good parts out of it.
