Sandalwood Essential Oil

There's a reason sandalwood has been burned in temples and meditation halls for over 4,000 years. It's not just pleasant. It's grounding in a way few other scents can match. Warm, creamy, woody, with a subtle sweetness that unfolds slowly and lingers for hours. Sandalwood doesn't shout. It settles.

We source our sandalwood from Australia (Santalum spicatum), where sustainable harvesting practices protect this precious resource. Australian sandalwood offers the same warm, woody, meditative quality as its Indian cousin, with a slightly softer, more subtle profile. The heartwood is steam-distilled to extract the oil, which is thick, golden, and intensely aromatic.

In aromatherapy, sandalwood serves as an anchor. It's a base note, meaning it's the last thing you smell as a blend fades, and it gives lighter top notes something to hold onto. But beyond perfumery, sandalwood is genuinely calming. It quiets mental chatter without making you drowsy. It pulls you out of your racing thoughts and back into your body, into the present moment.

The primary active compounds are alpha and beta santalol, which research suggests may influence the limbic system, the brain's emotional center. The result is a sense of relaxation without sedation. Alert calm. Present stillness.

We use sandalwood in our Relax Aromatherapy Roll-On because it does something lavender alone can't do. Lavender calms the surface. Sandalwood calms the depths. Combined with clary sage, chamomile, and neroli, it creates a blend that doesn't just smell relaxing. It actually grounds you.

Expect a warm, woody, slightly sweet scent with a creamy, almost milky quality. It's sophisticated without being stuffy, calming without being sleepy. Sandalwood plays beautifully with florals like lavender and neroli, with other woods like cedarwood, and with herbs like clary sage.
