Tapioca starch comes from the cassava plant, a starchy root vegetable that's been cultivated in South America for thousands of years. You probably know it from bubble tea or pudding, but it's also a quiet workhorse in bath and body formulations.
We use tapioca starch alongside (or sometimes instead of) corn starch in our Foaming Tub Truffles. Both starches serve similar purposes: they create that silky, soft-powder feel before the product hits water, help bind the dry ingredients together, and contribute to a smooth, satisfying fizz. The difference? Tapioca tends to feel slightly silkier and dissolves a bit more completely. It's also a good option for folks who prefer to avoid corn-derived ingredients.
In products like our Hot Chocolate Tub Truffle and Piña Colada Tub Truffle, tapioca starch helps everything dissolve smoothly without leaving any grit or film behind. It works with the baking soda and citric acid to create that fizzing reaction, while the starch keeps the whole thing from being too aggressive. Gentle bubbles, not a science fair volcano.
Completely plant-based, gluten-free, and gentle enough for the most sensitive skin. One of those ingredients you don't notice until it's missing.
