Coconut Oil
In the world of soapmaking, coconut oil is the engine of lather. While oils like olive provide creaminess, coconut oil delivers the big, satisfying, bubbly cleanse that most of us expect from a bar of soap. We use a specific '76-degree melt point' grade, which means it’s a soft solid at room temperature and is consistent in our recipes.
The cleansing power of coconut oil is a double-edged sword. Its lauric acid content creates fantastic bubbles, but too much can be stripping. This is where formulation becomes an art. We carefully balance it with moisturizing butters and oils in a practice called 'superfatting' to ensure our soaps cleanse effectively without drying your skin.
We choose RBD coconut oil—Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized. This might sound clinical, but it's a deliberate choice. This process removes the characteristic coconut scent, creating a neutral, stable base. This allows the delicate aromas of our essential oil blends to shine through without competition, giving us full creative control.
While it’s a hero in our soap, coconut oil also plays a role in other products. In our salt scrubs, its solid texture helps bind the exfoliants together, and it melts on contact with warm skin to deliver moisture. It’s a true workhorse, providing structure, cleansing power, and reliable performance across the workshop.
