Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Part of our Ingredient Glossary — educational information about raw materials we may use in our products. We don't sell raw ingredients.

Coconut oil has been having a moment for the past decade, but not all coconut oil is created equal. Extra virgin coconut oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat using mechanical pressing or centrifuge methods, without heat or chemicals. This preserves the natural compounds, nutrients, and that subtle true-coconut scent that make it so effective in certain skincare applications.
The star player in extra virgin coconut oil is lauric acid, which makes up about 50% of its fatty acid profile. Your skin converts lauric acid into monolaurin, a compound with serious antimicrobial powers. This is why coconut oil has been used traditionally for everything from minor cuts to diaper rash. The medium-chain fatty acids also mean it absorbs quickly without that heavy, greasy feeling.
We reach for organic extra virgin coconut oil when we want those preserved nutrients and the natural coconut character to come through in the finished product. Our lip balms are a perfect example. Products like our Coconut Cocoa Butter Lip Balm rely on extra virgin coconut oil to deliver both quick-absorbing moisture and that warm tropical scent. You'll also find it in our Baby Body Lotion where gentle, minimally processed ingredients matter most.
For soap bars where different properties are needed, we use refined coconut oil. Both have their place in our formulations. Both do their jobs beautifully.
