A teardrop of violet, a slip of moonlight above it.
The lower stone is amethyst. Faceted teardrop, about seven by nine millimeters, with the kind of natural violet variation synthetic stones can never quite fake. Above it sits a small rainbow moonstone round, hand-cut to roughly five millimeters, mostly milky white with surprise flashes of blue and rainbow shimmer when the light catches the layers right.
The two stones do different work. The amethyst gives you saturation and sparkle, the kind of violet that picks up a black dress, a denim jacket, or the soft lavender shirt you've had since 2018. The moonstone is the quieter element. Soft glow, gentle light, no demand for your attention. Together they balance each other. Color and luminosity. Weight and float.
Each pair is wrapped and finished by hand with solid fine silver loops and wirework. Light enough that you forget you're wearing them. Dainty enough to feel right with jeans. Lit enough for after dark. Real stones mean real variation, so no two pairs are exactly alike, and those small differences pair to pair are the design working as intended.
Every pair ships with silicone backings tucked into a small velour pouch. The backings keep them seated through the day. The pouch keeps them safe between wears, or doubles as the wrapping if you're giving them as a gift.
"I kept holding the amethyst up against the moonstone in different orders. Stone above, stone below, side by side. The moonstone wanted to be on top. It has this lighter feel, almost like it's floating, while the amethyst hangs with weight. Once I got the sequence right, the name basically wrote itself. People talk about amethyst for calm and moonstone for new beginnings. I don't push that hard, but wearing them together does feel like wearing quiet and curiosity at once."
The Artistry in the Details
- Two stones, two jobs: Faceted natural amethyst teardrops bring the violet color and depth. Hand-cut rainbow moonstone rounds bring soft glow and the occasional flash of blue.
- Hand-wrapped fine silver: Solid fine silver wire and ear loops, finished by hand. No plating to wear off, no nickel hiding in there for sensitive ears to find.
- Real stone variation: Each amethyst and each moonstone is its own thing. Slight differences in color depth, cut, and silverwork pair to pair are part of the deal.
- Comfortable for everyday: Lightweight enough that you'll forget they're on. The kind of pair that goes from morning errands to dinner without a thought.
Violet color, soft moon, fine silver. The pair you didn't know you'd reach for almost every day.
Key Elements
- Natural Amethyst
- The lower stone. Faceted teardrop, approximately 7x9mm. Real quartz with violet color that varies subtly pair to pair because that's what natural stones do.
- Rainbow Moonstone
- Sits above the amethyst. Hand-cut round, approximately 5mm. Soft milky glow with flashes of blue and rainbow shimmer that show when light hits the stone's internal layers.
- Solid Fine Silver
- Used for the wirework and ear loops. Fine silver is 99.9% pure, softer and more pure than sterling, with no hidden alloys to bother sensitive ears.
Keep It Beautiful
Daily Wear: Put jewelry on last, after lotions, perfumes, and hairspray have dried. These dull metals and cloud stones over time.
Storage: Use the velour pouch we included. It prevents scratches and slows tarnish on the silver by limiting air exposure. If you store these with other pieces, keep them separate so the dangles don't tangle and harder stones don't chip the moonstone.
Cleaning: A soft, dry cloth handles most days. For deeper tarnish, a polishing cloth made for silver brings the shine right back. Avoid liquid silver cleaners and chemical jewelry dips. They can pit fine silver and damage natural stones.
Remove Before: Swimming, showering, hot tubs, dishes, and sleeping. Chlorine and salt water are hard on silver. Snagging a delicate fine silver wire in your sleep is harder on you.
About the Tarnish: Fine silver is 99.9% pure, which makes it softer and more luminous than sterling, but it also means it can develop a warm gray tone over time. That's tarnish, and it's normal. A polishing cloth restores the bright finish whenever you want it. Storage in the pouch slows it down.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the silver going to bother me? I have sensitive ears.
A: Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver, with no hidden alloys. Most people who react to other earrings (usually a nickel reaction) do fine with fine silver. The included silicone backings also keep the posts in place if you have a tendency to lose them.
Q: How does this compare to the Light Lavender Amethyst Leaf Earrings?
A: Both feature amethyst, but they're very different pieces. The Lavender Amethyst Leaf uses softer lilac stones in copper and brass leaf forms, an organic nature-inspired look. The Violet Moon uses fully saturated violet amethyst plus rainbow moonstone in fine silver, more polished and more sparkle. The Leaf earrings feel like the forest. The Violet Moon feels like an evening sky.
Q: Why are no two pairs exactly the same?
A: Because the stones are real and Emily makes each pair by hand. Every amethyst has its own depth of violet, every moonstone catches light a little differently, and the wirework varies slightly pair to pair. We have a few pairs in stock right now. After those go, the next pair Emily makes will look like its own thing within the same design. That's a feature, not a flaw.
