Fresh lemon and lemon verbena in a tin that burns 30+ hours

Some rooms need a candle that smells like an evening. This is not that candle. Lighten Up is a morning. Fresh-cut lemon first, sharp and clean, then lemon verbena behind it, green and a little sweeter. That's the whole scent. No vanilla underneath, no musk, nothing warm holding it down. It smells like someone opened a window and there happened to be a lemon tree outside.

We pour it in a blend of soy, coconut, and apricot wax with a cotton wick, and the fragrance is phthalate-free. The blend throws scent well, which matters with citrus. Plenty of lemon candles smell great in the tin and vanish the second you light them. This one holds. Cold, it's bright. Lit, it's bright and it fills the room.

"I wanted a lemon candle that didn't turn into lemon cake or lemon furniture polish. Just lemon, the way it smells when you zest one. The verbena rounds it off so it isn't sour. And the name is a little bit of a joke. It lightens up a room, and it lightens up whoever is in it."

Small shop, real humans. Sometimes the label gets reprinted faster than the formula changes; sometimes the formula is current and the label is catching up. If you're managing an allergy or sensitivity, the safest path is to check both this page and the printed label. If anything's missing or unclear, ask us. We'd rather answer the question than have you guess.

Get the Most From Your Candle

First Burn: Let it burn until the wax pools to the edges. About 2-3 hours. Skip this step and you'll get tunneling for the life of the candle.

Wick Trim: ¼" before every light. Trim while warm. Long wicks mean soot and weird burning.

Burn Time: 3-4 hours max. More than that overheats the container.

The Non-Negotiables: Never leave unattended. Seriously. Keep from kids, pets, drafts, anything flammable. Heat-resistant, level surface only. Stop burning glass candles at about ½" of wax remaining.

Clean Exit: Dip the wick into the wax pool, straighten it back up. No smoke, easy relight next time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does it smell like lemon cleaning spray?

A: No. Cleaner-lemon is harsh and flat on purpose. Lighten Up smells like a fresh lemon with the peel just broken, and the lemon verbena gives it a green, slightly sweet edge that no cleaning product has. If you like the smell of zesting a lemon, you'll like this.

Q: How is it different from the Peaceful Lemon Eucalyptus Pine tin?

A: Peaceful is an outdoor, camping-porch kind of scent with eucalyptus and pine doing most of the work and lemon in a supporting role. Lighten Up is lemon first and only. Brighter, cleaner, better indoors. Peaceful goes on the picnic table, Lighten Up goes on the bathroom counter.

Q: Why the soy, coconut, and apricot blend?

A: Straight soy burns clean but can be quiet with citrus scents, which fade fast. Coconut wax throws fragrance harder, and apricot wax gives a smooth, even pour. Together the lemon stays strong for the whole burn instead of disappearing after the first hour. One tip: on the first burn, let the wax melt all the way to the edges of the tin, about two hours, or it'll tunnel.
