Every product is handmade in small batches by real people (hi, that's us!). Orders usually ship in 3 to 5 days, then the Post Office takes it from there. Think of it as farm-to-skin, not Prime-to-porch.

The silicone is gone. The detangling isn't.

Here's what happened: we pulled the cyclomethicone. It was the one synthetic conditioning agent in a formula full of plant-based ones, and Emily kept coming back to it. Could we get the same slip without it? The answer took some reformulation work, but yes. Hydrogenated olive oil and olive-derived conditioning agents replaced it completely. Same detangling. Cleaner label.

The core formula still does what it always did. Hydrolyzed rice protein is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft and strengthen from within. Oat protein works alongside it. Cocoa butter and shea butter handle the surface conditioning while argan oil adds shine without weight. We brought in squalane for lightweight moisture and rice starch to improve how the bar feels in your hands. The essential oil blend stays the same: lemongrass, geranium, rosemary, and clary sage.

Holly has hair halfway down her back. Before this bar, she was burning through 5-6 pumps of liquid conditioner just to get a comb through it. A few swipes of this and she never went back to bottles. Bonnie uses it as a leave-in on her ends and says her hair stays frizz-free into day two without feeling greasy or weighed down. Jan packed it for a 79-day trip and didn't miss liquid conditioner once. The formula works. We just made it work cleaner.

"Forty-seven versions to get the original right. Then I kept looking at the cyclomethicone on the label and thinking, we can do better than that. The olive-derived conditioning agents took real work to dial in, and honestly they cost more. But now there's nothing on that list I wouldn't put on my own kids' hair without a second thought."

Why You'll Love the Hair Conditioning Bar

  • Dual-Action Conditioning: Rice protein penetrates the shaft to strengthen. Cocoa butter and shea butter coat the outside. Your hair gets stronger AND softer at the same time.
  • Silicone-Free Formula: Olive-derived conditioning agents give you the same slip without synthetic buildup on your hair or your conscience.
  • All Hair Types Welcome: Fine hair doesn't get buried under product. Thick, dry, tangled-if-you-breathe-wrong hair gets enough moisture to actually detangle.
  • Clean, Bright Scent: Lemongrass and geranium keep things fresh without being heavy or perfumey. Just genuinely pleasant.
  • Replaces Bottles: 1.3 oz doesn't sound like much until you realize one bar handles 1-2 months of conditioning. Your shower gets simpler. The recycling bin stays empty.

Why We Do It

"I have long hair halfway down my back, it's dry and gets tangled and I have to use a lot of hair conditioner to be able to comb through it. Many hair conditioners don't work at all, I have certain brands that work, others are too light to do anything. So I was really pleasantly surprised that this hair conditioner bar not only worked, but worked very well and I only had to use a little bit. I have to use 5-6 pumps of the bottled hair conditioner so I am truly surprised at how little of this one it took! I am never going back. Glad to have both the shampoo moon and now the hair conditioner bar - products that work better AND I'm not using plastic bottles."

Key Ingredients

Olive-Derived Conditioning Agents
The reformulation headline. Hydrogenated olive oil provides slip and detangling without silicone. Same performance, plant-based source.
Hydrolyzed Rice Protein & Oat Protein
Small enough to get inside the hair shaft. Strengthens from within while everything else conditions the outside. The original breakthrough, still doing its job.
Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter & Argan Oil
Rich moisture without heaviness. These three handle conditioning, repair, and shine, and your hair absorbs them without looking like you tried too hard.
Lemongrass, Rosemary, Geranium & Clary Sage
The same essential oil blend as always. Clean, herbal, bright. Doesn't compete with whatever Shampoo Moon scent you chose.

Full Ingredients List

glyceryl stearate, cetearyl alcohol, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, polyglyceryl-4 oleate, glyceryl oleate, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, behentrimonium chloride, isopropyl alcohol, hydrogenated ethylhexyl olivate, hydrogenated olive oil, cocamidopropyl betaine, argania spinosa (argan) kernel oil, hydrolyzed rice protein, hydrolyzed oat protein, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, squalane, oryza sativa (rice) starch, tapioca starch, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, litsea cubeba fruit oil, cymbopogon flexuosus (lemongrass) oil, pelargonium graveolens (geranium) oil, salvia sclarea (clary sage) oil.

Small shop, real humans. Sometimes the label gets reprinted faster than the formula changes; sometimes the formula is current and the label is catching up. If you're managing an allergy or sensitivity, the safest path is to check both this page and the printed label. If anything's missing or unclear, ask us. We'd rather answer the question than have you guess.

After shampooing (a Shampoo Moon is the natural partner), squeeze excess water from your hair. This matters; too much water dilutes the conditioning agents. Run the bar down the length of your hair, focusing on the ends. Short hair: 2-3 swipes. Long hair, Holly-level tangles: 4-5. You'll feel the slip right away. Work it through with your fingers, leave for a minute or two if you want deeper conditioning, and rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle. Your hair should feel soft but not greasy. Detangled but not coated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What changed in the new formula?

A: We removed cyclomethicone (silicone) and replaced it with olive-derived conditioning agents. We also swapped avocado oil for squalane and added rice starch for a better bar texture. The rice protein, oat protein, cocoa butter, shea butter, argan oil, and essential oil blend all stayed. Same detangling performance, cleaner ingredient list.

Q: Will this work on fine or damaged hair?

A: Yes. The conditioning is effective without being heavy. Fine hair gets slip and strength without being weighed down. For thicker or damaged hair, add an extra swipe or two and leave it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing. The rice protein strengthens from inside the shaft, so it works differently than coatings that just sit on top.

Q: How long does one bar last?

A: Depends on hair length and how often you wash. At 1.3 oz it doesn't look like much, but most people get 1-2 months from a single bar, which replaces several bottles of liquid conditioner. Store it on a draining soap dish between uses so it dries completely. That's the trick to making it last.

Customers praised this conditioning bar for leaving hair "shiny and soft" with a pleasant lemon verbena scent. Many found it effective for softening hair without greasiness, eco-friendly with no plastic packaging, and travel-friendly. Works well paired with shampoo bars. Some noted it requires effort for longer hair application.

Perfect conditioner!

This conditioning bar will make your hair shiny and soft. It smells like fresh lemon verbena and goes perfectly with the hair styling mousse!

Sabrina, that bright, citrusy scent is lemongrass and geranium, which is probably why it reads as lemon verbena to you. They're in the same fresh family. Glad it's leaving your hair shiny and soft, and that it and the mousse make a good pair for you.

Great! My wife approves.

First time I used it my wife said she likes my hair and to keep using it. Then she said she loves how it smells.

Sean, if your wife approves, the rest is just details. The real question with a conditioner bar is whether it actually conditions, and this one does it without any silicone, rice protein and olive oil doing the work. Good to hear it's a yes from her.

I really like it!

I really like it! It was a first time use of the bar. I use a shampoo bar so this complimented so well. Left my hair soft without being greasy. Nice smell and seems like it will last awhile.

Nicole, soft hair and no grease on the first try is a good start. And your hunch is right: one bar usually outlasts a couple bottles of the pump kind, especially if it gets to dry out between uses.

Conditioning Bar is A+

I've tried the online stuff and it always disappoints. This conditioning bar had it all..great scent, really softened, and lathered up nicely. I will be back!

Kay, that scent is lemongrass, geranium, rosemary, and clary sage, the one part of this bar that has never changed. After a string of online disappointments, a bar that had it all is the review we want. See you when you are back.

Great as a leave in conditioner

I am on my second bar now. I use this on the ends of my hair as a leave-in conditioner, and it is perfect. It leaves my hair shiny, frizz-free, and unlike a lot of other leave-in conditioners, my hair always feels clean and not greasy or weighed down, even on day two. I also love the light and clean scent.

Loving the Conditioner Bar!

The conditional bar seems even better lately (did you make some changes)In addition to using these products at home, I travel a lot and actually bring the shampoo moon, conditioner bar and soap whenever I travel. We just went on a 79 day trip and I brought enough to last me the entire time. Less liquids when going through airport security and I prefer these products to liquids anyways.

Effective

This conditioner is great when paired with the shampoo moons. It works better for short hair in my experience because it doesn’t lather. You have to get it very wet and rub for awhile. Once it’s in your hair though it leaves it super silky after washing it out.

Not great for long hair

This conditioner bar has a lovely lemongrass scent. I have medium length dyed and highlighted (read: damaged) fine hair. I really wanted to love this because I like the shampoo moons so much. However, it takes a LONG time to apply enough to my hair that it feels like it does anything. It is very light conditioning--I think it would be perfect if my hair were a lot shorter. But, it takes a lot of effort (and wasted water in time) to use it.

Conditioning bars are a bit different than Shampoo Moons and do take a little bit of an adjustment when switching from a bottled liquid product. Package free conditioning bars need to be solid enough to last without melting away immediately while also performing well and activating quickly when adding water. Our conditioning bars work best when they are rubbed with water in the palms of your hands and then applied from scalp to end of hair in a petting/ combing motion. The effects are even more noticeable and enhanced once the hair is dry. Often people discover that after a few uses, their hair adjusts and then find the bars a wonderful alternative to plastic bottled conditioner, however, to those who find the bars just don’t work for them, we do offer a wonderful peppermint liquid super condition cream here: https://www.emzblendz.com/collections/hair-conditioners-and-treatments/products/conditioner-peppermint-super-hair-repair To save water, use in the bath or try using the bar as a deep-conditioning repair treatment by warming and massaging the bar into damp clean hair and leaving on for at least thirty minutes or even overnight. Thank you very much for your review.

Now a Conditioner I Can Feel Good About

I have always enjoyed the shampoo moons. So softening and lots of great smelling lather. I wished for a conditioner because I cannot wash my fine hair without one. I was so excited to see this bar conditioner. It is so easy to use and the scent is heavenly! I wear my hair short so I need to wash it almost every day. I have also been trying to decrease our plastic use to just those items that are essential. I no longer have to worry about how many of my plastic bottles are clogging up the recycable piles. Most importantly, the conditioner is excellent.

And now, finally there is the conditioner to go with. This leaves hair easier to manage and again, NO PLASTIC bottle! Love it!
